When my husband and I go on a ‘date’, we are fairly low key. We are not hard to please. Give us a nice quiet restaurant with good food, a quick trip after to our local coffee shop for a treat and maybe a visit to the bookstore on the way home for more quiet, and we are happy.
We like to use our date night as a quiet escape and head to places without kids that have grown up tablecloths and don’t use push vacuums to clean up stray crumbs.
Sometimes it’s nice to head somewhere a little fancier.
Some place that makes you feel special and is extra romantic.
Prime 47 is that place.
We visited Prime 47 last Monday and got the royal treatment. The staff was friendly, the food delicious, and the atmosphere definitely grown up. It is located in downtown Cincinnati right across the street from the Aronoff Center. This makes Prime 47 an excellent choice for a meal before or after a show.
That would be a great date night package!
It’s a great downtown Cincinnati date night destination. The outside of the building is plain and clean, with just a striking graphic of a steak knife above the door, adding to the fancy adult atmosphere.
We were greeted with a smile from the hostess and manager. Through conversation, they discovered we left behind three crazy kids in the chaos that is our home, and they printed a commemorative menu for us! How great is that? They also took a special picture for us.
No kids in the background!
We were quickly seated and given a wine menu to peruse.
The waiter recommended either the Sea Scallops wrapped in Prosciutto di Parma or the Crab Cakes as an appetizer. Crab cakes may not sound exciting, but that’s what we ordered. They were not like any crab cakes I have ever made. Delicious! Huge chunks of crab meat rolled in delicious spices. So wonderful.
Next, the special cuts of steak were brought out on a tray and explained to us. I decided on the filet mignon and my husband chose the Delmonico Ribeye. You can also select special sauces to go with your steak. The Crab Oscar on my steak was phenomenal.
The atmosphere in Prime 47 is quiet and grown up.
It is neat and clean with starched napkins and white tablecloths. There is a beautiful bar with a couple of televisions to catch the score or listen to some quick news. You wouldn’t think that would fit in at Prime 47, but somehow it works. It maintains the fancy atmosphere. It is not too fancy that you feel overwhelmed or out of place. And, it was nice to dine in such a calming atmosphere without a children’s menu!
After dinner, the manager recommended Handsome Eric’s Chocolate Chip Cookie. I’m not sure who this Eric is or what makes him so handsome, but his chocolatey goodness of a cookie topped with ice cream was absolutely wonderful. It was a great dessert to share with a cup of tea or coffee.
Prime 47 is great for a special night to the theater, an anniversary, birthday or other special date occasion. If you want to make an impression on a date, this is your ticket. The wait staff is so attentive and friendly. They definitely take care of you. It is a really an experience.
My romance rating? Four out of four hearts!
