Did you know that the entire month of February is Creative Romance Month? Now you do! During this month find creative ways to remind yourself how and why you love your sweetheart. Valentine’s Day is a great way to woo and cherish your significant other but don’t let one holiday be the only time to celebrate the love you have for each other. Romance is all about letting your partner know that they are loved and cared for and there are so many ways you can do that to show your affection and appreciation for one another.
A Thoughtful Note
The pen is mightier than the sword as the saying goes. This month is the perfect opportunity to write love notes, letters, even poetry to one another. There is no right or wrong way to write a love letter so long as what you are writing comes from the heart. Whatever you are writing should be filled with love and honesty. Love letters are not just a proclamation, but also a confession according to Jaime Zepeda in his article, “Why You Should Write Love Letters.” Get it out and onto the page and ignore any of those mean voices in your head. This exercise is all about sharing yourself to your partner which is not only selfless but also a way to be intimate with each other.
Surprising Gifts
Gift giving is a fantastic way to show your love to your significant other. Surprise each other with small gift throughout the month. They don’t have to be expensive either. Flowers, candy, a piece of jewelry, or even their favorite snack from the grocery store are all viable gifts. It’s the thought that counts. No, really! If you’re stuck on gift ideas, check out Pinterest or Etsy.
A Live Performance
Movie dates are a classic but seeing a live show is a whole other experience. Whether it’s a play, a musical, or even the ballet, take the chance to see a live performance with your significant other. Cincinnati is full of places to see theater. Check out Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, Cincinnati Play House in the Park, Cincinnati Ballet, or even University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music and Northern Kentucky University’s School of the Art’s season lineups.
Hangin’ Out
Romance is all about quality time with your partner and what better way to do that than just hanging out? It can be hard finding time out of the day, or even week, due to busy schedules but that doesn’t mean you two can’t spend some time together. Isadora Alman MFT, CST encourages keeping your partner company in her article “Hanging Out With Your Sweetie.” Something as simple as running errands together is a great way to “hang out” with each other during a busy week. If the two of you aren’t nearly as busy, also consider working on a project together or sit with your partner while they work on their favorite hobby.
A Meal For Two
Skip the fancy restaurant and make a fancy romantic meal for the both of you. Cooking together is a wonderful way to spend time with each other and can be just as fun as going out for the evening. Unsure of what to make? Try out this tandoori chicken recipe or this Italian bread & tomato soup recipe. If you still have room for dessert consider this individual chocolate melting cake recipe.
Be Adventurous
Use this month as an opportunity to travel around town with your partner! Go on a surprise trip and keep your sweetheart guessing along the way. For some extra excitement, put a blindfold on them (with permission of course!) Go somewhere you and your partner have never heard of in town and act like a tourist. Take your time getting to know this new place and just have fun. Need some help? Check out these spots in Cincinnati.
