My husband and I enjoyed a date night at Nicholson’s Tavern and Pub for the first time. We were attending a Broadway show that evening and the location of this Scottish-American gastropub was perfect, because it’s directly across the street from the Aronoff. They also take reservations, which gave us plenty of time to relax and enjoy our meal without the stress of having to find parking again before the show.

The inside of the pub is cozy with dim lighting and lots of seating at the bar.

Our reserved table was at a little nook that gave privacy with the high back benches.

Our server wore a kilt, which is just fun and he had a great knowledge of the menu and drink selections. There are a lot of drink options, which made us take a while to decide. I opted for a glass of wine and my husband ordered a craft beer.

For appetizers we tried the Scotch Egg (pub mustard, arugula for $7.50). We wanted to try something that we’ve never had before, and I highly recommend trying this! It’s a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage with breadcrumbs. The result is delicious!

We ordered the Smoked Salmon (rye bread, fried capers, arugula, herbed cream cheese  $11.95) as another appetizer. This appetizer was light and flavorful.

We split the entree of Shepherd’s Pie (lamb and beef, root vegetables, mashed potatoes  $14.95).  This meal was hearty and perfect for a rainy evening. The mashed potatoes were the perfect consistency and blended well with the meat and vegetables.

We decided to get two desserts, because two is better than one and we could sample a little of each. I ordered the Seasonal Cobbler (fresh seasonal fruit, Graham Cracker crumble, vanilla bean ice cream.)

Date Night Desserts at Nicholsons

The cobbler was good, but the Sticky Toffee Pudding (toffee sauce, cardamom & vanilla custard) stole the show! This is a dessert that you have to try! The cake absorbs all of the flavors of the toffee sauce and custard. The results are magic in your mouth.

We had a great time at Nicholson’s. The food is great, the drink selection is large and the atmosphere is perfect for a date night or a night out with friends.
